ECBL: Smith's double caps Gators' mercy-rule win

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Sawyer Smith invoked the mercy rule with a fifth-inning double and Spring Creek defeated Wayne, 11-1, on the Eastern Carolina Baseball League scene.
Chad Spurgeon led the Gators with two hits and an RBI. Allen Coor contributed a double. Spring Creek collected six hits as a team for the game.
Logan Miller emerged the winning pitcher. He permitted an unearned run on two hits and struck out seven in a complete-game effort.
Weather permitting, Spring Creek (5-8 overall) plays host to East Duplin today.
