Mount Olive women's soccer signs six players

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College head women's soccer coach Matt Hisler has signed six players to national letters-of-intent for the 2013 season.

Four recruits hail from North Carolina -- forwards Kasey O'Hara, Niza Vera, Rachel Williams and Jamison Kidd. Canadian Stephanie McCoy and Maryland native Alexandra Wetherholt will join the Trojans.

O'Hara plays club soccer for the Triangle United Soccer Association and will graduate from Holly Springs High School. Vera has earned all-region and all-Mideastern Conference honors while playing at New Hanover, the prep alma mater of MOC assistant women's coach Reid Clewis.

Williams plays at D.H. Conley and is a member of the PGSA Stars traveling team. She has twice earned all-Coastal Conference recognition, and also participated in swimming and cross country for the Vikings.

Kidd will graduate from Clinton High School. She has played on the East squad each of the past two seasons in the Powerade State Games and is a member of the Clinton United U-18 team. Kidd collected all-state honors last season and is a two-time Tri-County All-Conference performer.

Wetherholt set a school record for goals scored and helped lead Southern (Md.) HS to a regional championship and state finals appearance. She was selected as a "player to watch" by Varsity Sport Network and is a two-time all-county pick.

McCoy recorded eight shutouts and permitted just nine goals in 14 matches for London South Collegiate Institute last season. McCoy has led the league in shutouts each of the past three seasons.

Mount Olive finished 7-10-1 last season, including 6-5 against Conference Carolinas opposition. The Trojans have graduated 14 seniors over the past two years.
