Saints turn back Northern Nash

BETHEL -- Freshman Hunter Barwick swatted his first-ever varsity home run and SouthernWayne edged NorthernNash, 9-8, during opening-round play of the 2013 Pitt County Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The game was played at North Pitt High School.
Barwick ended the day 3-for-4 with two RBI. He belted his home run in the fifth inning.
Clayton Cashwell contributed two hits and an RBI. Nathan Barwick batted 2-for-3.
Jacob Hollingsworth worked 12/3 innings of relief and emerged the winning pitcher against the Knights, of the Big East 3-A Conference. Cody Wendorf started and D.J. Skinner tossed one-third inning of relief.
Weather permitting, the Saints (9-4 overall) played Pine Forest today at 6:30 p.m. on the D.H. Conley High School diamond.
