PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock spent most of Friday night's game trying not to win ... literally.

Due to a new rule instituted by the N.C. High School Athletic Association, a soccer game is over as soon as one team gains a nine-goal lead. The Golden Falcons jumped ahead 6-0 in the first 20 minutes and seemed reluctant finish off a 10-1 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir.

Much of the game was played by C.B. Aycock's reserves who worked on moving the ball and passing in the midfield a majority of the second half.

The Golden Falcons finally ended the game in the 76th minute.

"We wanted to look at some of the younger players and make sure everyone got to play," C.B. Aycock head coach Kevin Adkins said. "It's only the second game of the season, so it was a good opportunity to see where we are as a team."

Sabrina Johnson got the Golden Falcons on the board with a goal in the ninth minute off an assist from Cheyenne Warrick. Emily Borel made the score 2-0 less than a minute later with an unassisted goal. Warrick scored the first of her four goals 35 seconds later.

Borel made the score 4-0 in the 12th minute, Warrick added a goal in the 19th and Johnson scored her second goal of the night in the 21st minute. C.B. Aycock (2-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) substituted most of its starting lineup and led 6-0 at the half.

Warrick scored back-to-back goals in the first six minutes of the second half to make it 8-0. The Golden Falcons again substituted their entire starting lineup and played very conservatively.

North Lenoir (0-2 overall, 0-1 ECC) got on the scoreboard in the 61st minutes when Frances Barringer pushed in a goal on just the Hawks' third shot of the game.

"Tonight, things didn't go our way obviously," North Lenoir head coach Tony Hill said. "But we have a good group of girls and I think we have potential to play competitive soccer."

Gracie Parrott put the Golden Falcons ahead 9-1 in the 66th minute and Cady Sheeks tallied the game-ending goal in the 78th minute.

C.B. Aycock will host South Johnston on Tuesday.
