Boys' basketball
Southern Wayne 50, Cleveland 48
* CLAYTON -- Southern Wayne hung on for a 50-48 win at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Cleveland on Thursday evenig.
Angelo Burden led the Saints with 11 points. Tarvis Bradshaw and Ronnell Outlaw each scored 10 points.
The Saints begin Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tournament play at home Tuesday.
South Johnston 60, C.B. Aycock 51
* FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock endured its second straight loss with a 60-51 setback at South Johnston on Thursday evening.
The Golden Falcons had won six consecutive Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference games before back-to-back losses to conclude the regular season.
Shakel Powell led Aycock with 14 points and Michael Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Greg Williams supplied seven points and A.J. Mundle added five points and seven rebounds.
The Golden Falcons (12-11 overall, 7-5 ECC) begin ECC tournament play on Tuesday.
Girls' basketball
C.B. Aycock 33, South Johnston 29
* FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock earned a 33-29 win at South Johnston on Thursday.
Myleah Jones led the Golden Falcons with 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Kayla Newsome provided 10 points, while Ashley Darden collected six rebounds.
Quanika Artis dished out four assists and collected four steals.
Aycock begins Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tournament play on Monday.
Cleveland 51, Southern Wayne 34
* CLAYTON -- Southern Wayne concluded its regular season with a 51-34 loss Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Cleveland on Thursday evening.
Zaria Atkins led the Saints with 14 points and Keejah Wilson added nine points.
Southern Wayne begins Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on Monday.
JV sports
*Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 79, Greenfield 67 -- Jason Jones finished with 24 points for the Chargers. Tyrique McClain contributed 17 points and Corey Carpenter had 12. Preston Edwards added 10 points. Wayne Country Day (11-3 overall) faces Freedom Christian on Saturday for the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference tournament championship. Greenfield School is the tournament host.
