Moses scores 29, Goldsboro girls roll

Tyona Moses poured in 29 points and Goldsboro pulled away from Rosewood for a 57-41 victory on Tuesday evening.

The Cougars improved to 3-0 in Carolina 1-A Conference play and are now 33-0 all-time against league opponents during the regular season.

Goldsboro led 19-17 at halftime and Moses scored 15 of her 29 points in the third quarter. The Cougars closed the third quarter with nine consecutive points to open up a 38-28 advantage.

"We realized that once they went man-to-man, we had an advantage on the inside," Goldsboro head coach LaTina Bullock said. "I just told our girls to attack the paint inside. We started attacking and started driving, and that's how we were able to get the lead."

The Eagles (9-5, 2-1 CC) executed their offense well enough to get quality looks at the basket, but struggled to knock down open shots in the second half. Lexi Mercer led Rosewood with 13 points. Holly Heath added 11 points and Alicia Burns had 10.

"Our execution was fine," Eagles' head coach Ryan Well said. "Goldsboro extended their zone out a little bit more and we didn't create better passing angles off the dribble. We just didn't knock down our outside shots."

Talaya Lassiter scored 12 points for Goldsboro.

The Cougars (8-5 overall) travel to Spring Creek on Friday, while Rosewood entertains North Duplin.
