WINSTON-SALEM -- Dylan Lafond surpassed his own school record, Jaynell Brown established a program-best mark and Ronnie Sturgill eclipsed a personal time during the Winston-Salem State Open contested at Winston-Salem State University on Sunday afternoon.

Lafond bested his own school record with a time of 8 minutes, 42.99 seconds in the men's 3,000-meter event. Teammate Aki Kitagawa recorded a third-place time of 8:49.65. Both runners exceeded the previous program-best (8:53.89) set by Kerry Maloney.

Sturgill broke his own school record, taking the 5,000-meter race in 15:34.04 -- two seconds better than his previous mark.

Brown finished second out of 29 competitors with a distance of 12.31 meters in the women's shot put. Teammate Charity Grimes placed fourth.

Junior Chelsea Long captured first and Emily Shaw collected third place out of nine runners in the women's 5,000 meters. Long posted a time of 18:49, while Shaw ran a time of 19:36.5.

The Trojan men compiled 68 points and ended up second among 14 teams. The Trojan women amassed 56 points and seized runners-up accolades for the 17-team field.

Perennial NCAA Division II power St. Augustine's swept the men's and women's team titles.

MOC returns to action Feb. 2 at the Gene Anderson Invitational in Chapel Hill. The season-ending Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championship meet is Feb. 16.
