Hines flirts with triple-double, MOC men extend win streak to 5

MISENHEIMER -- Dory Hines came within a rebound and an assist of the first triple-double in school history and Mount Olive extended its winning streak to five games with a 90-78 win over Conference Carolinas in-state foe Pfeiffer University on Wednesday evening.

Hines had 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists before leaving with the Trojans ahead comfortably in the closing minutes. There have been a pair of triple-doubles in the women's ranks.

Darrell Patterson finished with 25 points, Jordan McCain added 14 and Mahamed Ibrahim collected 10 for MOC, which improved to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in league play this season.

The Trojans used an 18-7 run to erase a 28-27 deficit and led 45-35 at halftime. Pfeiffer (3-11, 1-6) pulled to within eight points in the second half, but couldn't get any closer.

MOC dominated the boards, 52-30.

Volleyball

WILSON -- Angel Dache pounded out a match-high 13 kills and Mount Olive College remained unbeaten with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-14 shellacking of Barton in a Conference Carolinas men's volleyball match Wednesday evening.

Dache tallied a .417 hitting percentage, while MOC hit .353 as a team. Andreas Langler provided 11 kills and served three aces for the Trojans, who rose to 3-0 overall and 2-0 against league opposition this season.

Adam Miracle finished with eight kills, two aces and a match-high nine digs for the Trojans. The outside hitter also recorded six assists, while starting setter Ben Casado passed out 28 assists.

Richard Hesse led the defense with three blocks.

MOC plays host to first-year conference member Erskine (S.C.) College on Saturday. First serve is 3 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.

Women's basketball

MISENHEIMER -- Tamara Nesmith pumped in 20 points and Jasmine McDonald posted a double-double, but Mount Olive dropped a 62-61 decision to in-state rival Pfeiffer University on the Conference Carolinas women's basketball scene Wednesday evening.

McDonald collected 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojan women (10-3 overall, 6-3 CC), who have lost three road games by a combined 17 points this season. Nesmith converted 10 field goals, pulled down eight rebounds and handed out six assists.

Joneiqua Gary contributed 12 points -- all behind the 3-point line.

MOC squandered a 13-point first-half lead and couldn't keep an eight-point advantage in the second half. The Trojan women pulled to within 62-61 on McDonald's backdoor layup off of Nesmith's assist with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.

A flurry of play and constant fouling to force the bonus situation finally stopped the clock inside 20 seconds. Pfeiffer missed the front end of a one-and-one situation.

The Trojan women pushed the ball downcourt and the Falcons knocked the ball out of bounds. Nesmith's jumper clanged off the front of the rim as the buzzer sounded.
