Girls' basketball

Faith Christian 35,

Cornerstone Christian 33

Meredith Mooring collected 10 points and Faith Christian defeated Cornerstone Christian, 35-33, for its first victory of the season Monday evening.

Abigail Pierce and Meredith Skinner scored six points apiece for the Conquerors. Mollie Roebuck added four points.

Faith Christian (1-3 overall) plays again Nov. 27 at Bethel Christian of Kinston.

C.B. Aycock 52,

Beddingfield 36

* PIKEVILLE -- Myleah Jones and Ashley Darden each recorded a double-double during Charles B. Aycock's 52-36, season-opening triumph over Wilson Beddingfield on Monday evening.

Darden logged a game-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jones contributed 16 points and 10 boards. Quanika Artis and Taylor Daniels supplied eight and seven points, respectively.

Fayetteville Christian 57, Wayne Country Day 30

* FAYETTEVILLE -- Senior guard Sarah Best tallied 12 points in Wayne Country Day's season-opening, 57-30 loss to perennial power Fayetteville Christian on Monday evening.

Best pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists, while Bailee Creger contributed 10 points. Hannah Pearson and Karis Hawkins collected eight rebounds apiece.

The Chargers (0-1 overall) entertain Wilson Christian Academy, the reigning N.C. Christian Schools Association Class 3-A state champion, at 5:30 p.m. today.

Boys' basketball

Faith Christian 57,

Cornerstone Christian 50

Faith Christian outscored Cornerstone 19-4 in the final period and captured a come-from-behind, 57-50 win Monday evening.

Aaron Hill paced the Conquerors with 15 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Blake Floars and Ricky Sasser knocked down 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Andrew Parrish chipped in nine points.

Faith Christian (4-1 overall) travels to Bethel Christian on Nov. 27.

C.B. Aycock 60,

Beddingfield 50

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock had three players score in double figures in a season-opening, 60-50 win over Wilson Beddingfield on Monday night.

Cameron Johnson led the Golden Falcons with 13 points to go with six rebounds. Michael Williams added 12 points and nine rebounds. Shakel Powell supplied 10 points and A.J. Mundle pulled down 10 rebounds.

Aycock plays host to Wilson Hunt today.

Wayne Country Day 83, Fayetteville Christian 66

* FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Country Day launched its 2012-13 season with an 83-66 triumph over Fayetteville Christian on Monday evening.

Lee Atkinson led the Chargers' offense with 18 points. Joel Davis scored 16 points and Marlon Coley chipped in 14.

The Chargers (1-0 overall) play host to Wilson Christian on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Girls' basketball: Charles B. Aycock 41, Beddingfield 16 -- Madison Wildman and Quanika Lofton pumped in 10 points apiece for the Golden Falcons in their season opener.

* Boys' basketball: Charles B. Aycock 56, Beddingfield 40 -- Cameron Kornegay and T.J. Morrow both scored 11 points for the Golden Falcons. Jamere Prior added 10 points. Aycock (1-0) entertains Wilson Hunt today.
