WARSAW -- State-ranked James Kenan forced three turnovers and handed Tri-County 1-A nemesis Lakewood a 26-0 defeat at Bill Taylor Field on Friday evening.

The Tigers, who remained No. 2 in the latest Associated Press media poll, recorded their second shutout of the season. Juan Hooper paced the defense with six stops. Teammates Justen Boney, Biard Kirkpatrick and Michael Melendez recorded five tackles apiece.

Keevon Miller and Justas Basden each had one quarterback sack.

Lakewood finished with 108 yards of total offense.

Marcelias Sutton, ranked among the area's top five rushers, rambled for 115 yards on 15 carries and accounted for two touchdowns -- a 3-yard run and 26-yard scoring strike to Ja'Quan Williams. Williams provided 106 yards and a touchdown on eight totes.

Kenan piled up 308 yards of total offense.

The Tigers (7-0 overall, 4-0 TCC) travel to Midway on Friday.

Cleveland 28,

C.B. Aycock 6

* PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock found a way to harness offensive juggernaut Cleveland on Friday evening.

The Rams, ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press Class 3-A media poll, punched in two second-half touchdowns and claimed a 28-6 victory at Hardy Talton Stadium.

A fumble on the opening kickoff led to a quick Cleveland score.

Trailing 14-0, Golden Falcons quarterback Austin Snowden broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run. Snowden concluded the night with 94 yards on the ground and 80 passing on 8 of 18 attempts.

Jeremy Hooks added 59 yards on 12 carries, while Neil Clark collected 27 yards on 10 rushing attempts. Aycock had 270 yards of total offense.

"They're pretty good up front and that was a lot for us to handle," Golden Falcons head coach Randy Pinkowski said. "We're undersized on the offensive line and their defensive line really gave us a lot of problems. We're doing all we can do. The kids are really playing well."

Pinkowski said two more dropped balls in the kicking game pinned his team at its own 15-yard line twice in the second half. That limited the play calling and gave the Rams' defense the advantage.

C.B. Aycock (3-5 overall, 1-3 ECC) travels to Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Ayden-Grifton 70, Spring Creek 0

* LITTLEFIELD -- Defending Class 1-AA small-school eastern champion Ayden-Grifton converted kickoffs, punt returns and interceptions into points during a 70-0 triumph over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Spring Creek on Friday evening.

"Ayden is a really good football team," Spring Creek head coach Aaron Sanders said. "I felt like our boys came out and played as well as they could."

The Chargers, ranked No. 9 in the latest Associated Press media poll, returned the opening kickoff to the end zone. Two punt returns resulted in scores. Ayden-Grifton also had three pick sixes.

Terrel Johnson led Spring Creek's offense with 11 yards rushing. The Gators had nine yards of total offense and did not record a first down.

Spring Creek entertains Rosewood on Friday.

South Johnston 55, North Lenoir 10

* La GRANGE -- Marsharee Troy rushed for a touchdown and Caleb Baird booted a 41-yard field goal, but that's all the offensive scoring North Lenoir mustered in a 55-10 loss to South Johnston on Friday evening.

Donyae Hopkins paced the Hawks' ground game with 44 yards on eight carries. Cedric Summers provided 36 yards on five totes.

The Hawks fell to 1-7 overall and 0-4 against Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opposition this season.
