Bernsdorf posts six saves in MOC's double-OT scoreless draw

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College freshman keeper Nick Bernsdorf recorded his second consecutive shutout in the net, and helped preserve a 0-0, double-overtime draw against Erskine (S.C.) College on Saturday evening.

Bernsdorf notched six saves for the Trojans -- the same number of stops he logged in an overtime victory over in-state league foe Pfeiffer on Thursday.

MOC missed its best scoring chance in the 55th minute when Alex Bosch's shot was re-directed over the net.

Neither team posed a serious threat in the OT periods and neither goalie had a save.

The Trojans owned a 24-16 edge in shots.

Mount Olive (2-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 CC) entertains Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday. Kickoff is 4 p.m. followed by the women's game at 7.

Women's soccer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive owned an 11-1 edge in second-half shots, but Erskine (S.C.) College claimed a 1-0 victory in their Conference Carolinas match Saturday afternoon at Amon Field.

Flying Fleet goalie Katie Lyle recorded 10 saves between the pipes and helped deal the Trojans their sixth defeat of the season.

Mount Olive misfired on a first-half corner kick and Janaya Finney's 25-yard blast bounced wide of the right post as the second half expired.

Volleyball

MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas matches to Coker (S.C.) and Belmont Abbey on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The Trojans rallied from a two-set deficit, but the Cobras used an 8-0, fifth-set run to put away MOC 25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 24-26, 15-6 on Friday. Carly White cranked out a season-high 22 kills. Sarah Robertson contributed nine kills, four blocks and a career-high 17 digs.

Laura Vega provided 43 assists off the bench.

White and Robertson recorded seven kills apiece in a 25-17, 25-12, 25-16 setback against Belmont Abbey. Dezirae Mackey posted six kills and one block. Lauren Lee and Nicole Sparks each had 10 digs defensively.

Vega dished out 15 assists.

The Trojans (5-8 overall, 1-4 CC) are off for a week before playing host to Limestone on Friday and in-state archrival Lees-McRae on Saturday.
