JV football: Saints cruise past Cougars

Xavier Pearsall rushed for 322 yards and two touchdowns and Southern Wayne rolled to a 42-20 win Thursday night at Goldsboro.
Pearsall scored on touchdown runs of 50 and 45 yards. He has rushed for 660 yards and six touchdowns in the Saints' last two outings.
D.J. Graham supplied a 4-yard rushing touchdown and also hauled in a 39-yard touchdown pass from Tyaire Allen. Marquaill Roddick returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown.
Allen, Roddick and Loel Deans each scored a two-point conversion.
Roddick recorded five tackles, recovered a fumble and also forced a fumble. Allen provided an interception and a fumble recovery. Southern Wayne's defensive line of Darion Brinson, Raekwon Wiley, Josh Graham and Shamar Faison turned in a solid effort.
Cougars' quarterback Nashir Bowden threw for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Bufkin and Daktavious Wheeler each had a touchdown reception. Taylin Davis supplied 54 yards rushing and Rayvonne Barnes added 32 yards on the ground.
Davis recorded 10 tackles and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown. Joshua Wootson had 10 tackles and Isiah Core made nine stops.
Goldsboro had two touchdowns called back on penalties.
Southern Wayne (2-1 overall) travels to Triton on Sept. 20, while Goldsboro visits Rosewood on Oct. 4.
