DUDLEY -- Defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference champion Charles B. Aycock handed Southern Wayne a 9-0 loss on Monday afternoon.

Top-seeded Ashton Walker and second-seeded Katie Gurley each improved to 9-0 with shutout decisions in singles play. Teammates Rachel Jackson, Kimber Pender, Casie Belom and Cassidy Coerver also prevailed in singles.

Pender turned back the Saints' Hope Rose 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) at the No. 4 spot.

"Kimber came up with some big shots at the right time during the third-set tiebreak," CBA head coach Luke Vail said. "Our team played well throughout the lineup against a very competitive Southern Wayne team. Our younger players are starting to gain more confidence and to raise their level of play."

Aycock's tandems of Walker-Gurley, Jackson-Pender and Belom-Coerver each earned a doubles point.

The Golden Falcons (6-3 overall, 3-1 ECC) travel to Eastern Wayne on Wednesday and play host to Triton on Thursday.
