Defending Class 3-A state individual champion Tara Simmons earned medalist honors with 37 and led Charles B. Aycock to a season-opening, 144-170 triumph over Rosewood at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
The teams played nine holes.
Junior Madison Aycock shot a 46, while Kristen Denning rounded out the Golden Falcons' scoring with a 61. Simmons and Aycock each secured a spot in the eastern regional later this season.
Rosewood junior Taylor Gales celebrated her birthday with a team-low and regional-qualifying score of 52. Freshman teammate Lindsey Barton carded a 57, followed by sophomore Amber Flood, who logged a 61.
"(Aycock) Coach (Roger) Rhodes and I feel we are off to a good start with our teams," RHS head coach Shay Campbell said. "We have high expectations for our golfers and feel that as the season progresses we will be better."
