* PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock claimed the final doubles match of the night and broke a 4-4 tie en route to a season-opening win over Greene Central on Monday afternoon.
Ashton Walker, Katie Gurley and Cassidy Coerver each tallied a singles point for the Golden Falcons (1-0 overall). The tandems of Casey Belom-Coerver and Walker-Gurley each prevailed in doubles play.
Kayla Radford, Laurie Sutton and Taylor Kiel each won their respective singles match for the Rams (0-1). The pairing of Radford-Sutton won in doubles action.
C.B. Aycock plays host to Wilson Fike today.
East Duplin 6,
Southern Wayne 3
* DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne opened its tennis season with a 6-3 defeat against East Duplin on Monday.
Hope Jones, Mollianne Kennedy and Hope Rose each claimed a point during singles play for the Saints.
Southern Wayne (0-1 overall) plays host to Kinston on Thursday.
Volleyball
Lakewood 3, Rosewood 0
* ROSEBORO -- Lakewood handed Rosewood a 25-19, 25-22, 25-14 loss in the season opener for both teams Monday afternoon.
Ellen Morgan led the Eagles with four kills and two blocks. Anna Ingram added four assists and three kills. Crystal Allen finished with three blocks.
Rosewood (1-0 overall) plays host to Midway tonight at 6 p.m.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Lakewood d. Rosewood 14-25, 25-21, 25-20 -- Callie and Ashley Thornton each finished with five kills for the Eagles. Kayla Hardee dished out 13 assists. Rosewood (0-1 overall) entertains Midway tonight.
