MOUNT OLIVE -- Justin Griffith has been named as an assistant coach for the Mount Olive College men's basketball team, it was announced by Trojan head coach Joey Higginbotham. Griffith will also serve as head coach of the Trojan junior varsity men's basketball team.
Griffith graduated in May with a B.S. degree in business administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College, where he was a member of the men's basketball team and performed an internship with the men's basketball program this past spring semester. Through his internship, Griffith assisted in recruiting, scouting, developing practice plans and post-season strength and conditioning.
On the court, Griffith averaged 8.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in 2011-12. He shot 48.3 percent overall from the field and from three-point range. He was a co-captain during his junior and senior years, and NCWC won USA South Conference championships in his sophomore and junior years.
"Justin is a young coach who is eager and very passionate about college basketball, and he will be involved in all aspects of our program," said Higginbotham, who enters his fifth year as Mount Olive's head men's basketball coach. "Justin was a very hard-working player and I know he'll have that same work ethic as a coach."
Mount Olive posted a 21-8 record in 2011-12 and finished second in the Conference Carolinas East Division with a 12-4 mark. The Trojans reached the championship game of the 2012 Conference Carolinas Tournament.
The Trojans travel to Division I Old Dominion November 1 for an exhibition game, then play host to the 47th Annual Pickle Classic on November 16-17 to open the 2012-13 regular season.
