North Duplin 8, Ayden-Grifton 3
* AYDEN -- North Duplin made the most of a makeup game at Ayden-Grifton with an 8-3 win in Carolina 1-A Conference play Wednesday night.
Ryan Wolfe pitched a complete game and tallied 10 strikeouts for the Rebels. Wolfe only allowed four hits on the night.
"We hit the ball well tonight and that was the difference," North Duplin head coach James Hobbs said. "Ryan came in and pitched a terrific game for us as well."
Larry White led the Rebels with three hits and three RBI. Breyon Johnson added three hits and Mitchell Thigpen supplied two hits.
North Duplin (12-3 overall, 4-1 CC) travels to Goldsboro tonight.
C.B. Aycock 10, Rosewood 0
* PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock finished a suspended game from earlier in the season with a 10-0 victory over Rosewood on Wednesday night.
Gregory Johnson pitched a five-inning complete game and struck out four batters to earn the mound win.
Adam Pate led the Golden Falcons with two doubles and two runs scored. Cameron Taylor, Bryant Stafford and Justin Babour each added one hit in the win.
C.B. Aycock (12-7 overall) visits South Johnston tonight.
Boys' golf
Aycock prevails
* C.B. Aycock posted a four-man total of 320, and bested Wilson Beddingfield and Greene Central on the links at Lane Tree Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Battle Burnette led the Golden Falcons with a 77. Jordan Salter (78), Dylan Mitchell (79) and Julian Billhardt (86) completed the team total.
C.B. Aycock will be back in action at the final Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match Monday at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.
Boys' tennis
Southern Wayne 7,
South Johnston 2
* FOUR OAKS -- Southern Wayne rolled past South Johnston 7-2 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match Wednesday night.
Brandon Outlaw, Alan Nunez, David Joyner, Andrew Medlin and Chris Judy each won in singles action for the Saints.
The tandems of Sam Henderson-Medlin and Outlaw-Nunez each prevailed in doubles play.
Southern Wayne improved to 10-8 overall.
Rosewood 6, Spring Creek 3
* Rosewood prevailed at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, and turned back county rival Spring Creek, 6-3, in on the Carolina 1-A Conference scene.
Dylan Cuddington-Fouad Ismail handed the Gators' top-seeded duo of Daniel Krentz-Adam Haggerty an 8-2 loss. The Eagles' third-seeded tandem of Zach Thornton-Jordan Dail stopped Regan Jackson-Reed Lee, 8-3.
Cuddington, Ismail, Nolan Tubb and Tevin Hines each earned a singles point for Rosewood.
JD Quick and Cody Boozer each emerged victorious in singles play and collected the Gators' lone doubles point at No. 2.
"This win came on the heels of a tough 5-4 loss to Ayden-Grifton on Monday," RHS head coach Clifton Greenup said. "It was a very tight match."
Girls' soccer
Greenfield 4, Wayne Country Day 1
* WILSON -- Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference rival Greenfield snapped Wayne Country Day's six-game winning streak with a 4-1 triumph on Wednesday afternoon.
Cameron Johnson scored three times for the Knights. A deflection off a Wayne Country Day defender accounted for the Knights' fourth goal.
Sarah Best tallied the Chargers' lone marker off of an assist by Catherine Ford.
Wayne Country Day (8-5-0 overall, 3-2-0 CPIC) travels to Oakwood on Tuesday.
Princeton 12, Spring Creek 2
* PRINCETON -- Ashley Jacobs collected three goals and dished out two assists in Princeton's 12-2 conquest of Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek.
Jessica Brush, Kassandra Bautista and Amber Hill knocked in two goals apiece. Lauren Woodard, Linda Smith and Katylin Casey each added one goal.
Jenna Woodard dished out three assists. Jacobs and Smith each provided two assists. Brush, Abby Rubio and Kayla Dominguez each contributed one assist.
Alyssa Borja scored both goals for the Gators.
Princeton (9-4-1 overall, 2-0-0 CC) is the guest of defending league champion Rosewood on Monday.
Rosewood 2, Goldsboro 1
* Rosewood scored the game-winning goal in overtime and held on for a 2-1 win over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Goldsboro on Wednesday night.
Samantha Allen and Cory Smith each finished with one goal for the Eagles. Smith and Marissa Hill each recorded an assist.
Rosewood (4-4-2 overall, 2-0-0 CC) will host Princeton on Monday.
Softball
C.B. Aycock 6, South Central 5
* WINTERVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock rallied for four runs in the sixth inning and bested South Central 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon.
Brooke Bell led the Golden Falcons with two doubles and two RBI. Meredith Burroughs added two hits and Conner Davis finished with one hit and three stolen bases.
Bell claimed the win in the pitcher's circle. Burroughs tossed two innings of perfect relief to notch the save.
C.B. Aycock (18-2 overall) is the guest of South Johnston tonight.
Triton 6, Southern Wayne 2
* DUDLEY -- Eastern Carolina 3-A rivals Triton and Southern Wayne played five scoreless innings, but the Hawks pulled away 6-2 in the latter stages Tuesday afternoon.
Madison Davis and Haley Warren paced the Saints' offense with two hits apiece. Rose, Moody and Kennedy (RBI) supplied one hit apiece.
Warren took the pitching loss.
Middle schools
* Softball: Spring Creek 17, Rosewood 6 -- Ashley Marriner emerged the winning pitcher for the Gators. Spring Creek improved to 7-2 overall.
