The postseason accolades continue to pour in for Craig Hayes.
The latest occurred Tuesday.
Hayes, a Mount Olive College senior, has been named to the Division II Bulletin All-America Honorable Mention squad. The recognition comes after the 6-foot-4 forward was a first-team pick on the Daktronics Division II All-Southeast Region team and a second-team selection on the NABC Division II All-Southeast Region team.
"I'm very excited for Craig," MOC head men's basketball coach Joey Higginbotham said. "This is a well-deserved honor for a young man who has worked tirelessly over the last five years. It's hard to put into words how much Craig Hayes means to me personally and to the MOC basketball program, and we are very proud of Craig for this accomplishment."
Hayes sat out his entire junior season with an injury.
Boy, what a senior year he had.
The Woodbridge, Va., native emerged the top field goal percentage shooter in Conference Carolinas play and finished 13th nationally with a 60.5 percent average. He knocked down 19.5 points an outing -- second-best in the league and 35th nationally. Overall, Hayes was the only player in the league to rank among the top six in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage.
Hayes was a three-time All-Conference Carolinas selection. He finished his collegiate career with 1,522 points, 662 rebounds and a 56.6 field goal percentage.
