AAU basketball
Blazers log 2-2 record
* DURHAM -- Isaiah Hatchett pumped in 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, but the Wayne County Blazers 13-Under team dropped a 53-51 decision to the Raleigh Caps in semifinal-round play of the USBA Spring Classic contested at Southern High School.
The Caps led by 16 at halftime. Hatchett's 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to a single point with 69 seconds left in regulation. DJ Waters just missed the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
PJ Hill contributed four points and four steals, while Y'Oente Royal chipped in nine points and six rebounds. Waters finished with six points.
Wayne County opened the Classic with a 54-31 loss to MVP Rim Rockers of Cary on Friday. Jacob Norris led the Blazers' attack with 12 points and six boards. Damien Darden added seven points and eight rebounds.
Royal flirted with a double-double -- 14 points, nine rebounds -- in the Blazers' 52-29 romp over Hoop Therapy of Raleigh. Norris provided seven points and five rebounds. Hill supplied six points and five assists. Hatchell knocked down six points and picked the Therapy for three steals.
The Blazers stayed alive in the tournament with a 48-32 conquest of the Wake Forest Warriors. Royal led the way with 11 points and six rebounds. Hill had nine points, four steals and three assists. Hatchett (nine points) and Darden (six points) combined for 12 rebounds.
Boys' tennis
Rain suspends match
* Rosewood grabbed a 4-2 advantage against Southern Wayne after singles play, but Mother Nature intervened with a late-afternoon thunderstorm and suspended play Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (4-4 overall) received singles points from Dylan Cuddington, Daniel El Awar, Nolan Tubb and Hunter Hinson.
Alan Nunez and Anwar Ramirez emerged victorious in singles for the Saints.
Neither school indicated if the non-conference match would be completed.
Middle schools
* Softball: Spring Crek 14, Eastern Wayne 4 -- Alanna Price belted a home run, while Ashley Marriner emerged the winning pitcher. The Gators improved to 5-1 overall.
