Eastern Wayne got a much-needed win and may have begun a turnaround.

The Warriors upended Spring Creek 10-0 in five innings on Monday night and earned their first win of the season. A previous victory over Wilson Fike had to be forfeited due to a player eligibility infraction.

"We needed this one for sure," Eastern Wayne head coach Tony Parrish said. "I thought each of my girls competed and they each made an impact on the game in a positive way."

Eastern Wayne broke the game open in the home half of the second inning.

Ramsey Eason was hit by a pitch and moved to third base when Tiffany Gussenhofen laid down a bunt single. Diamond Parks reached on an error that plated Eason. Gussenhofen scored on a wild pitch. Sara Rice was hit by a pitch and Debbie Mitchell loaded the bases with a walk.

Casey Young and Brooke Morowski drew back-to-back walks that each plated a run. Starla Strickland capped the rally with an RBI single which gave the Warriors a 5-0 lead.

"Tonight we walked too many and we did not hit enough," Spring Creek head coach Lester Boltinhouse said. "We have a good group of young players and I feel like we have the ability to play quality softball, it's just a matter of getting everyone on the same sheet of music."

Eastern Wayne added three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth before ending the game in the fifth. Mitchell led off getting hit by a pitch. Casey Young singled, Morowski reached on a fielder's choice and Strickland plated the game-ending run with a single.

Allyson Newsome claimed the win in the pitcher's circle. Newsome allowed three hits and struck out nine batters in five innings.

"Allyson got ahead in the count and that was important," Parrish said. "We didn't walk many batters and the defense was very good behind her."

Eastern Wayne (1-10 overall) travels to Triton tonight, while Spring Creek (1-8 overall) is the guest of Goldsboro this afternoon.
