Boys' tennis

Eastern Wayne 9,

Cleveland 0

* CLAYTON -- Eastern Wayne kept its perfect Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference record intact with a 9-0 win over Cleveland High School on Monday.

Chaz Fitzpatrick, Russell Turner, Steven Taylor, Sawyer Thompson, Cole Newsome and Rex Smith each prevailed in singles play for the Warriors.

The tandems of Fitzpatrick-Turner, Taylor-Newsome and Thompson-Smith each prevailed in doubles play.

Eastern Wayne (11-0 overall, 8-0 ECC) plays host to Wilson Fike on Wednesday.

C.B. Aycock 8,

North Lenoir 1

* PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock captured five points in singles play and rolled past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival North Lenoir 8-1 on Monday afternoon.

Will Hoff, Michael Kearney, Austin Walker, Chas Hooks and Sam Chastain each prevailed in singles action for the Golden Falcons. Chris Thaxton claimed the Hawks' lone point.

The tandems of Addison Vail-Walker, Hoff-Kearney and Hooks-Chastain each emerged victorious in doubles play.

C.B. Aycock (11-1 overall, 7-1 ECC) travels to Rocky Mount today.

Boys' golf

Best shoots 75

* KINSTON -- KyleBest claimed medalist honors with a 75 and Southern Wayne emerged the low-scoring team during the fourth Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference boys' golf tournament of the season.

The Saints carded a four-player total of 340 on the Falling Creek CC links and shaved eight strokes off Triton's overall lead -- 1,411-1413. Julian Mitchell emerged the Saints' second-lowest scorer with an 82, followed by Jon Barrow (88) and Austin Smith (95).

Senior Caleb Jones led Eastern Wayne to a third-place finish with an 84. Willis Underwood shot an 87, followed by Hidematsu Sueki (90) and Ty Schmeltzer (97). The Warriors fired a 357 and trail the Saints by 12 strokes in the overall team title chase.

Dylan Mitchell paced Charles B. Aycock with an 81. Battle Lawrence scored an 87. Julian Billhardt (96)and Matt Ivey (99) rounded out the Golden Falcons' fourth-place total of 363.

Softball

Wilson Christian 13,

Faith Christian 0

* WILSON -- Faith Christian finished with just two hits in a 13-0, mercy-rule loss to perennial N.C. Christian Schools Association 3-A power Wilson Christian on Monday afternoon.

Elizabeth Weeks and Meredith Clarke each recorded one hit for the Conquerors.

Faith Christian fell to 5-2 overall.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 7, Community Christian 0 -- Carlyle Smith pitched a no-hitter and stuck out nine batters for the Eagles. Hunter Burt belted an inside-the-park home run. Wayne Christian improved to 4-0 overall.

* Softball: Princeton 6, North Johnston 2 -- Hailey Wood struck out 10 batters in the pitcher's circle for Princeton on Monday afternoon. Taylor Carroll and Beth Braswell led the Bulldawgs with three hits each in the win. Princeton plays host to Meadow on Thursday.
