Carolina 1-A golf tourney goes to Rosewood

Nick Adams stared back at the green, picked up his putter cover and headed to the next hole.
It wouldn't have been a surprise to see the Rosewood sophomore toss the club into the water on No. 10 after missing short putts on the first two holes Wednesday afternoon.
But he didn't.
Adams hit tee and fairway shots with precision, found his putting touch and carved out a season-low 3-under par 69 on the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course links. The Eagles fashioned a season-best 309 team score and stretched their already comfortable margin in Carolina 1-A Conference action after three regular-season tournaments.
Rosewood has a 945-1,115 stroke advantage over Goldsboro High. Princeton is third with 1,143, followed by North Duplin (1,212) and Spring Creek (1,320).
"It was a great day for us," Rosewood head coach Daniel Baynes said. "We had great efforts across the board. I was really proud of my guys, especially Blake Weaver because he's had a rough couple of weeks."
Weaver and Bret Robinson tied for second in individual competition at 6-over par 78. Teammate Andrew Henn took fourth with an 84, followed by Goldsboro senior Anthony Hooks, who fashioned an 85 as the Cougars' sixth-seeded player on the day.
"That was a personal best for Anthony," first-year GHS head coach Ray Lippert said. "Our guys did fantastic, played amazing well. They have worked hard and they had a really good day out there today."
Jeff Johnson and Matt Hall complemented Hooks' effort with 18-hole rounds of 87 and 88, respectively. Carlin Thomas completed the Cougars' season-best, four-player scored of 354 with a 94.
"Ray has been working those guys hard and they are really getting after it," Baynes said. "That says a lot about his boys and a lot about how Ray inspires these boys. You know, some of them don't even own clubs and have to borrow clubs to play."
Ryne Woodard led Princeton to a third-place finish with an 86. The Dawgs's 386 team total included scoring rounds from James Boren (87), Cody Price (102) and Leith Puckett (111).
Adam Kornegay paced North Duplin's fourth-place performance with a 91. Hunter Brock carded a 98, followed by top-seeded Ryan Hines (100) and William Rivenbark (109). The Rebels collected a team score of 398.
Dwayne Brown emerged Spring Creek's low scorer with a 105. Justin Price (107), Tyler Ludlum (112) and Chandler Cannon (118) completed the Gators' four-player total of 442.
