LAURINBURG -- Deshaune Green took advantage of a surprise starting nod and recorded his first career double-double in Mount Olive's 89-86 victory over in-state men's basketball nemesis St. Andrews on Tuesday evening.

Jasmine McDonald poured in 12 of her game-high 17 points during a 27-2 second-half run, and the Trojan women handed the Knights a 72-51 loss. McDonald also had nine rebounds, six steals and four assists for MOC, which snapped a two-game skid.

It was the final meeting between the two Conference Carolinas schools. St. Andrews has reclassified to NAIA.

Green, who started due to injuries and was one of five Trojans who scored in double figures, collected 16 points and 11 rebounds in the road affair. Green accounted for seven of MOC's 20 offensive rebounds.

Senior guard Derek Staton pumped in a team-high 18 points. Mahammed Ibrahim, Craig Hayes and Ewon Wright contributed 14 points apiece.

The Trojans (18-7 overall, 11-4 CC) held a three-point lead at halftime and opened the second half with a 10-5 run. Hayes, the reigning Conference Carolinas player-of-the-week, hit a jumper and 3-pointer during the run. Ibrahim added a triple of his own.

Less than five minutes later, the Knights pulled even at 60-60 on a jumper by Demetrius Monroe. St. Andrews tied the game twice more before pulling ahead for the last time on a three-pointer by Michael Dunkins with 5:13 left.

Dory Hines hit a pair of jumpers and Green added another to put the Trojans ahead for good. Staton's free throw gave Mount Olive an 85-79 lead with 47 seconds left.

Unlike their previous meeting which resulted in a 38-point win, the Trojan women settled for a five-point halftime advantage and allowed the Knights to forge a second-half tie at 34-all on Kimayah Fulcher's three-point play.

McDonald hit a jumper on Mount Olive's next possession and Alyssa Luebs' steal led to Tamara Nesmith's offensive putback. McDonald and Nesmith combined for the first eight points of the Trojans' scoring run.

McDonald answered a St. Andrews basket with back-to-back field goals as Mount Olive scored 21 unanswered points and maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the game. The Trojans forced turnovers on consecutive St. Andrews possessions as Andrea Jones' 3-pointer and McDonald's basket extended Mount Olive's lead to 53-36 with 10:32 left to play.

The margin grew to 20 on McDonald's basket 21 seconds later and Kirksten Mitchell followed with a 3-pointer. Shanice Pringle's basket with 8:38 remaining completed the run and gave Mount Olive a 61-36 lead.

Nesmith finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for Mount Olive, while Luebs had five steals and recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jones and Mitchell added nine points apiece, while Ty Wallace pulled down seven boards.

Mount Olive outrebounded St. Andrews 53-38.
