Girls' golf
Simmons fires even par
* FOUR OAKS -- Tara Simmons earned medalist honors with an even-par 36, and Charles B. Aycock emerged victorious in a three-team Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet at Reedy Creek.
Jessie Stewart, Jordyn Howell and Madison Aycock each fired identical nine-hole rounds of 54 for the Golden Falcons, who posted a three-player total of 144.
Cleveland edged South Johnston 177-178 for second place.
Simmons birdied the final two holes on the back nine.
"Tara had some putts drop today that she hadn't been making," said Aycock head coach Roger Rhodes. "Her short game was better today and she drove the ball very well today down the fairway."
The Golden Falcons (15-0 overall, 6-0 ECC) return to action Oct. 12 in the Willow Springs Invitational in Wilson.
Girls' tennis
Greene Central 5, J.A. Holmes 4
* SNOW HILL -- Greene Central earned two crucial points in doubles play, and turned back 2-A nemesis John A. Holmes 5-4 on the Snow Hill Tennis Complex courts Monday afternoon.
The Rams' top-seeded tandem of Jessica Hatch-Hayes Lovett doubled up the Aces' Molly High-Callie Copeland 8-4. The No. 2 duo of Kayla Radford-Brittany Colie prevailed 8-1.
Hatch, Lovett and Laurie Sutton each picked up a singles point.
The Rams (16-5 overall) continue play today against North Pitt.
Wayne Christian 8, Crossroads 1
* HENDERSON -- Wayne Christian traveled to Crossroads Christian and claimed an 8-1 victory Monday afternoon.
Taylor Willman, Elizabeth Sutton, Ally Willman, Bryanna Means and Miranda Taylor each claimed a singles point. T. Willman-Sutton, A. Willman-Means and Easom-Taylor swept the doubles courts.
The Eagles host CCC foe Grace Christian-Raleigh on Thursday afternoon at Herman Park.
Terry Sanford 8, C.B. Aycock 1
* MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles B. Aycock took its game on the road to Mount Olive College and suffered its first loss of the season -- an 8-1 setback to perennial Class 4-A powerhouse Terry Sanford on Monday.
Ashton Walker picked up the only point for the Golden Falcons during singles play.
C.B. Aycock (19-1 overall) travels to Rocky Mount on Wednesday.
Nash Central 9, Eastern Wayne 0
* Eastern Wayne could not mount any rallies against 3-A tennis powerhouse Nash Central on Monday afternoon.
The Warriors (11-4 overall) are the guests of Triton today.
Greenfield 6, Wayne Country Day 3
* Wayne Country Day could not quite get over the hump against Coastal Plains Independent Conference archrival Greenfield on Monday in a 6-3 defeat.
Gianna Democko and Sarah Best each claimed a point during singles play for the Chargers. The tandem of Meredith Roethling-Democko won in doubles action.
Wayne Country Day (7-1 overall) plays host to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.
Girls' volleyball
Liberty Durham 3, Faith Christian 2
* DURHAM -- Faith Christian could not quite close out Liberty Durham in a 25-12, 25-27, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8 defeat on Monday night.
Katie Watson led the Conquerors with 14 digs. Christina Powell added 11 digs. Abigail Pierce and Hannah Stocks each finished with five kills.
Faith Christian fell to 2-6 overall on the season.
Wayne Christian 3, Northwood Temple 0
* FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Christian took care of business and easily dispatched Northwood Temple 25-19, 25-22, 25-11 on Monday.
Jessica Swets led the Eagles with 13 kills and eight digs. Britney O'Hara finished with 11 kills and eight aces in the win. Haley Greenwood finished with 11 digs and six aces.
Wayne Christian (16-4 overall, 7-1 CCC) will play host to Grace Christian of Raleigh on Thursday with first place in the league standings on the line.
Eastern Wayne 3, Spring Creek 0
* Eastern Wayne completed the season sweep of Spring Creek with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 win on Monday afternoon.
Kendra Nash led the Warriors with four aces. Rachel McCollum added four kills and four digs.
Eastern Wayne (6-10 overall) will host Southern Wayne tonight.
Boys' soccer
Wayne Christian 4, Northwood Temple 3
* FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Christian got two goals from Chris Smith in a 4-3 win over Northwood temple on Monday afternoon.
Chase Darden and Victor Kokiko each added one goal in the victory. Darden also talleid two assists. Seth Slusher added one assist.
Wayne Christian improved to 4-7-2 overall. The Eagles will play host to Grace Christian of Raleigh on Thursday.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne d. Spring Creek 25-17, 20-25, 25-14 -- Jenna Rouse led the Warriors with four kills. Eastern Wayne will host Southern Wayne today at 4:30 p.m.
Middle schools
* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Brogden 25-6, 25-21, 25-7 -- Lexi Mercer served 13 aces for the Eagles, who improved to 7-1 overall this season.
* Soccer: Brogden 1, Rosewood 0 -- Alejandro Sandoval scored the game-winning goal for the Rams on an assist from Victor Ponce. Alex Gonzalez posted his second shutout of the season in goal. Brogden improved to 5-0 on the season.
* Soccer: Northwood Templed 3, Wayne Christian 1 -- Victor Kokiko scored the Eagles lone goal on a penalty kick. Tanner Rose finished with four saves.
