PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's quest for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference cross country championship continued with a sweep of both the boys' and girls' portions of a tri-meet on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons had three of the top five male runners and compiled a team score of 21. North Lenoir was second with 38 points and Southern Wayne did not record a team score.

Aycock's Austin Walker was the top male runner with a time of 21 minutes, 13 seconds. Teammate Marvin Alexander was second in 21:14. North Lenoir's Chris Thaxton (21:52) and Marshall Letchworth were third and fourth, respectively.

The Golden Falcon's Jordan Lee (22:21) finished fifth.

"The men's team ran strong," said Aycock boys' coach David Thomas. "We maintained a good pace and we finished above expectations."

Charlie Robertson (22:34) and Ryan Grant (22:48) earned sixth- and seventh-place finishes for Aycock. The Hawks' Derek Hafeimaier (22:53) was eighth. The Golden Falcons' Blake Sutton (23:04) and Ryder Gardner (23:09) rounded out the top 10.

Hassan White was the Saints' top runner.

Aycock grabbed seven of the top 10 spots on the girls' side. Neither Southern Wayne or North Lenoir fielded enough runners to post a team score. The Golden Falcons' Cheyenne Warrick set the pace with a first-place effort of 24:19. North Lenoir's Sara Irsik was second with a time of 24:24.

"I haven't had anyone run that close to me this season, but I pushed through at the end," said Warrick. "Having someone chase you makes a difference because it makes you have to work harder. It being cooler today definitely helps because we were at Eastern Wayne last week and there was such high humidity it was hard to breathe."

The Golden Falcons' Chloee Lamb (25:29), Cady Sheeks (26:03), Kennedy Perkins (26:40) and Myra Waheed were third through sixth, respectively. The Hawks' Madison Hines (27:15) crossed the line in seventh place. Aycock's Ariel Strickland (27:24) and Gracie Parrot (29:12) seized eighth and ninth place.

Sharone Maultsby (29:45) was Southern Wayne's top runner in 10th place.

The Golden Falcons travel to Southern Wayne on Oct. 12.
