Volleyball
Eagles post 3-2 record
* DURHAM -- Wayne Christian defeated two former state champions and ended up third in the Trinity School of Durham Volleyball Jamboree.
The Eagles (13-4 overall) opened the two-day tournament with a straight-set victory over Carolina Christian 1-A foe Crossroads Christian. They opened play Saturday with a straight-set loss to Trinity School, the reigning N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state champion.
Wayne Christian rebounded with back-to-back triumphs over Statesville Christian and Shannon Forest (S.C.), the 2008 and 2009 NCISAA 1-A state champs, respectively.
The Eagles' tournament run ended with a three-set loss to Coastal Plains Independent power Oakwood.
Wayne Christian entertains Spring Creek today. First serve is 5 p.m. inside Clifford Gymnatorium.
