PIKEVILLE -- A good midseason contest.
Charles B. Aycock earned the two doubles points it needed and turned back perennial Class 2-A girls' tennis powerhouse Greene Central, 6-3, on a sunsplashed Monday afternoon.
The Golden Falcons remained perfect in 14 outings this season.
The top-seeded tandem of Brooke Barfield-Ashton Walker and third-seeded twosome of Caroline Bone-Kimber Pender sealed the outcome. Barfield-Walker defeated the Rams' Jessica Hatch-Hayes Lovett 8-3. Bone-Pender cruised past Chasity Holloman-Laurie Sutton 8-2.
Barfield, Walker, Bone and Pender each triumphed in singles.
Hatch and Brittany Colie each claimed a singles victory for the Rams, who had their nine-match win streak snapped.
Aycock entertains North Lenoir today and travels to South Johnston on Thursday.
