Boys' soccer
Wayne Country Day 11,
Flora MacDonald 1
* RED SPRINGS -- Hil Tanner and Cody Neal each logged a hat trick (three goals), and Wayne Country Day dominated Flora MacDonald Academy, 11-1, on Monday afternoon.
It was the first career win for new WCDS head coach Scott Summers.
Tanner scored in the third, 12th and 57th minutes, and also dished out three assists. Neal posted goals in the 20th, 23rd and 61st minutes, and handed out one assist.
Eighth-grader Charlie Roethling found the back of the net three minutes into the second half. Teammates Holden Edwards, Li Fengru, Billy Fheng and Jack Langston provided one goal apiece.
The Chargers (1-1-3 overall) entertain East Wake Academy today.
Princeton 3, Midway 1
* SPIVEYS CORNER -- Princeton earned its first win of the soccer season with a 3-1 victory at Midway on Monday night.
Oliver Balderez led the Dawgs with two goals, including the go-ahead score in the 65th minue. Tyler Daniels added an insurance goal in the 75th minute for Princeton.
Ethan Andreson tallied two assists and Trevor Haynes added one assist in the win.
Will Toler stopped nine shots in net.
Princeton visits North Johnston on Wednesday.
Volleyball
Princeton 3, Midway 0
* SPIVEYS CORNER -- Princeton found its offensive grove early and hammered Midway 25-22, 25-9, 25-23 on Monday afternoon.
Amber Hill led the Bulldawgs with seven kills, six digs and nine service aces. Savanna Massengill added seven kills and two blocks. Megan Gerrell (seven digs) and Nicole Melvin cranked out six and five kills, respectively.
Sophomore setter Linda Smith dished out 30 assists.
Katlyn Peedin led the defense with 12 digs.
Princeton (4-2 overall) travels to Bunn on Wednesday.
East Wake Academy 3,
Wayne Country Day 1
* WENDELL -- East Wake Academy claimed the final two sets of a 25-21, 17-25, 25-14, 25-18 victory over Wayne Country Day on Monday afternoon.
Rachel Uzzell led the visiting Chargers with 10 aces and five assists. Sarah Crooks provided six aces, three kills and three digs. Bailee Creger had four kills.
Jessica Zhou notched one ace, two kills, four digs and six assists.
Wayne Country Day (2-5 overall) entertains Upper Room on Thursday.
Girls' tennis
Greene Central 9, Wilson Fike 0
* SNOW HILL -- Greene Central reached the .500 mark with a 9-0, non-conference romp over Wilson Fike on Monday afternoon.
Jessica Hatch, Kayla Radford, Brittany Colie, Hayes Lovett, Danielle Dillane and Mackenzie Butts each clinched a singles point for the Rams. Hatch-Lovett, Radford-Colie and Dillane-Chasity Holloman each prevailed in their respective doubles match.
The Rams (4-4 overall) face Kinston on Wednesday.
Golf
Lane Tree LGA
* Libby Newsome emerged the game-of-the-week winner during play on the Lane Tree Golf Club links. Mary Ann Sutton and Linda Watson seized low net and low putts, respectively.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Wayne Country Day d. East Wake Academy 25-20, 25-18 -- Taylor Sledge led the Chargers with six service aces. Logan Harrell (four aces), Gracie Gurley (one ace) and Teriece Hawley (one ace) contributed to the victory. WCDS improved to 2-1 overall.
