Coming off a loss to a county rival, Rosewood got off to a good start and defeated another county foe on Wednesday night.

Rosewood dropped Southern Wayne 25-11, 25-9, 25-20 one night after suffering its first defeat of the season against Wayne Christian.

"It was kind of a reverse performance for us," Eagles head coach Jennifer Cochran said. "We were the more aggressive team tonight and it showed with how we played the first two sets."

Rosewood (6-1 overall) dominated from the opening serve in the first set as Southern Wayne struggled to find a productive rotation. An early injury to setter Emily Carr did not help the Saints' cause.

"Not only did that throw our rotation off, but it threw us off mentally too," Southern Wayne head coach Eric Dural said. "You could tell that our heads were not in the game in that first set."

After an easy win in the second set, the Eagles subbed some players into unfamiliar positions and the Saints took advantage. A pair of kills by Deborrah Bennett gave the Saints a 16-14 lead midway through the third set and forced Cochran to call time out and settle her squad.

Rosewood won the serve back and Scout Anderson came through with eight consecutive service points that included two aces. That gave the Eagles a decisive 23-17 advantage.

"We moved some girls around and we did not rotate very well in the third set," Cochran said. "But Scout came in and gave us a lift, and we were able to win it."

Ellen Morgan led the Eagles with eight kills and two blocks. Anna Ingram added five kills and two blocks.

Bennett led the Saints with four kills and one block. Madison Davis chipped in three kills and one block. Savanna Wiggins tallied one kill and two blocks.

Southern Wayne (1-1) plays host to Triton tonight. Rosewood faces Wilson Fike on Sept. 6.
