PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock took one set to find its offensive stride.
The Golden Falcons rolled once the attack came together.
Aycock dropped Greene Central in three sets 25-17, 25-9, 25-11 in the regular-season opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
"I was pretty happy with our serving tonight," Golden Falcons' head coach Davis Harris said. "I wasn't real happy with how we served during our scrimmage, but tonight we were able to keep the ball in and keep the pressure on the defense."
The Golden Falcons jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the opening set before Greene Central rallied back behind two consecutive kills from Peri Dail. The Rams pulled within five points at 22-17, but Aycock put the game away on back-to-back kills by Madison Mercer.
C.B. Aycock dominated the second set as Meredith Burroughs tallied five aces during a nine-point scoring run that gave the home team an insurmountable 16-4 advantage.
Burroughs capped her strong performance in the third set with six kills.
"I was happy with how Meredith played," Harris said. "I thought Madison and Emily Martin each played their best today, also."
C.B. Aycock finished with 16 aces as a team compared to just five for Greene Central. The Golden Falcons also tallied 31 kills as a team -- paced by Mercer's 12-kill effort. Burroughs added seven kills and two blocks. Connor Davis finished with four kills and four aces.
Greene Central was paced by Dail's three kills and two blocks. Katlyn Napier contributed three kills and one block. The Rams (0-1 overall) will be back in action on Thursday when they host Ayden-Grifton.
C.B. Aycock (1-0) plays host to Wilson Hunt on Thursday.
