Simmons places 7th

SNOW HILL -- Tara Simmons carded a 54-hole score of 232 and finished seventh overall in girls' division play during the 7th annual Dogwood State Junior Championship contested at Cutter Creek Golf Club.
Simmons, a rising junior at Charles B. Aycock, shot an opening-round 77 and followed that up with a second-round 75. She fired an 80 on the final day of competition.
Simmons is the reigning N.C. High School Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A/3-A eastern regional champion.
Nick Adams ended up ninth in the 15-Under boys' division and 42nd overall. The rising sophomore at Rosewood posted a three-day total of 233, which included a 77 on Thursday.
Wesley Simmons posted a 54-hole score of 222 and took third in the boys' 13-Under Division. Simmons fired a final-round 72 after collecting consecutive 18-hole scores of 75 on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
The annual event is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
