MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College athletics department and adidas have entered into a five-year agreement that will make the sports apparel manufacturer the exclusive provider of uniforms and footwear for all Trojan sports teams.
The agreement takes effect with the 2011-12 academic year.
"We are very excited to enter into a partnership with adidas," said Jeff Eisen, director of athletics at MOC. "One benefit is the cost savings of having one supplier for all of our teams, as opposed to each team lining up a provider on its own. Another benefit will be the ability to further brand our identity with team uniforms being consistent with one another, much like when we unveiled a new logo a few years ago for the athletics department.
"We are proud to partner with one of the most recognizable sports companies in the world."
The Trojans will be outfitted in adidas uniforms, practice gear and travel gear. MOC fields 18 NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports and also has a tie-in with Trojan alum Stephen Nordan, who is the contact for local adidas vendor Johnson-Lambe Co. in Raleigh. Nordan was a two-time Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference baseball tournament MVP, and holds the program's all-time career records for hits, doubles and RBI.
Eisen and Nelson Welch, adidas team sales representative, are excited about the partnership.
"I'm very excited to have this opportunity to work with Mount Olive College athletics department, as well as work side by side with Jeff Eisen," said Welch. "We are pleased to have this agreement with the athletics department as it helps in marketing the adidas brand. As adidas collaborates with Mount Olive, we look forward to outfitting each sport and the athletic staff.
"We feel honored to have this agreement and look forward to a long-standing relationship."
