* ROCK RIDGE -- Channer Matthews and Tanner Bradley combined for a five-hitter, and Wayne County moved within one victory of capturing the 2011 N.C. Babe Ruth 12-Under District 4 baseball championship.
The teams meet again today for a state-tournament berth. First pitch is 5:30 p.m. at Rock Ridge Elementary School.
Matthews, Carlisle Smith and Sawyer Smith paced Wayne County's offense with two hits apiece. Cameron Kornegay, Lee Daniels and Hunter Burt each provided one hit.
Daniels scored three runs.
Wayne County did not commit an error.
