Boys' tennis

Rosewood 9, Spring Creek 0

* Rosewood clinched the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season championship with a 9-0 decision over county rival Spring Creek on Tuesday afternoon.

Matt Binda, Cole Radcliff, Zach Behrend, Daniel Elawar, Fuad Ismail and Nathan Kornegay each earned a singles point for the Eagles. Binda, the No. 1 seed, outlasted the Gators' Daniel Krentz 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-2 in a two-hour marathon. Radcliff took a three-set decision over Adam Haggerty at No. 2 singles.

Radcliff-Ismail, Behrend-Elawar and Nathan Tubb-Nolan Tubb each claimed a doubles point. The three tandems combined to lose just four of 28 contested games.

Rosewood (11-1 overall, 5-0 CC) secured the league's automatic bid to the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs.

Baseball

North Lenoir 7, Kinston 1

* KINSTON -- North Lenoir got a strong pitching performance from Caleb Kearney and defeated Lenoir County rival Kinston 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Kearney went the distance on the pitcher's mound and struck out seven batters to earn the win.

Bryan Hardy led the Hawks at the plate with two hits and one RBI. Chastin Radford and Grayson Phillips each finished with two hits in the win.

North Lenoir (13-3 overall) travels to Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

Farmville Central 4, Rosewood 3

* FARMVILLE -- Rosewood allowed a run in the bottom of the eighth inning and dropped a 4-3, non-conference decision to Farmville Central on Wednesday afternoon.

Cody Harris pitched 7 1/3 innings before giving way to Garrett Burns for the final two batters. Burns took the loss.

Jonathan Franks, Will Winslow and Taylor McGill each tallied one hit in the defeat.

Rosewood (5-12 overall) entertains Goldsboro today at 5 p.m.

North Duplin 9, Goldsboro 0

* Cody Ivey held Goldsboro to two hits as North Duplin bested the Cougars 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Wolfe and Konner Brock led the Rebels' offense with two hits each. James Kornegay added a home run in the win.

Asunji Maddox tallied both of the Cougars' hits.

Goldsboro travels to Rosewood today, while North Duplin will host Princeton.

Track

Eagle girls place second overall

* PRINCETON -- Rosewood claimed six first-place finishes and placed second overall in a three-team, Carolina 1-A Conference meet at Princeton on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs finished with 59 points while the Eagles tallied 56. Goldsboro ran third with 39 points.

Rosewood's Crystal Allen won the long jump, the 100 meters and the 200 meters for the Eagles. Elise McSwain paced the field in the 300 hurdles and Armani Perry won the 800-meter run.

The Eagles also claimed the 3200-meter relay.

Aycock boys end up 4th

* FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock's Cade Ivey emerged the 800-meter champion and ran the opening leg on the gold medal-winning, 3,200-meter relay during the season-ending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference championship meet Wednesday afternoon.

Joining Ivey on the relay were Dillon Bernel, Cody Garris and Alex Rogers.

Caleb Scott (shot put), Khaleil Owens (400 run) and Austin Snowden (300 hurdles) each placed second. Andre South (discus), Bernel (1,600) and the 1,600-meter relay squad each took third.

"We were led by middle-distance runners and they continue to raise the bar for our young sprinters," said Aycock head coach Jay Westbrook. "This was evident today as most of our guys set personal bests in their events as we continue to gain experience on the track."

Softball

North Duplin 15, Goldsboro 0

* North Duplin got its offense rolling early and often in a 15-0 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference member Goldsboro on Wednesday.

Skylar McCarty earned the win in the pitcher's circle for the Rebels.

McCarty also delivered three hits on the night including a home run. Alonna Pate and Kailey Odom each finished with one hit for the Rebels.

North Duplin plays host to Princeton tonight, while Goldsboro is the guest of Rosewood.

Girls' soccer

W. Country Day 2, Epiphany 1

* NEW BERN -- Wayne Country Day held off a rally by The Epiphany School and captured a 2-1 win on Tuesday afternoon.

Catherine Ford and Sarah Best each scored one goal for the Chargers.

Wayne Country Day travels to Greenfield on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 21, Cleveland 1 -- Gregory Johnson emerged the winning pitcher in the mercy rule-shortened contest. Ryan Grant batted 4-for-4, while Tim Naughton added three hits, including a double. Hunter Jones doubled twice. Johnson, Dustin Price (two hits), Dustin James, Brett Bartlett, Jordan Lee, Dylan Hinnant, Garrett Joyner and Hunter Kennedy also contributed offensively. The Golden Falcons (12-4 overall) travel to Eastern Wayne today.
