Rosewood officially locked up the Carolina 1-A Conference boys' golf championship with a first-place finish at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles had such an insurmountable lead going into the final match that the title was all but assured before the teams even took the course.

"We went out and played well, and we finished the conference season strong," Rosewood head coach Daniel Baynes said. "Now we have the county match to look forward to and then the regional."

Andrew Henn earned medalist honors for the Eagles with a round of even par 69. Nick Adams added a 72, Blake Weaver shot a 79 and Tyler Dean fired an 80.

Spring Creek and Ayden-Grifton each qualified as a team for the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A east regional due to their second- and third-place finishes, respectively.

Princeton's Ryan Woodard, Goldsboro's Jeff Johnson and North Duplin's Phillip Holland each qualified for the regional as individuals. The trio were the three lowest-scoring players on teams that did not qualify as a squad.

Due to a change in the districts by the NCHSAA, the teams from the Carolina 1-A Conference will play in the East Regional at Bear Trail Golf Club in Onslow County on May 2. The teams were originally scheduled to play in the Mideast Regional at Goldsboro MGC.

"I am a little disappointed that my guys aren't going to get to play on their home course," Baynes said. "But at the same time it is a good opportunity to play on a new course in a big match."

Rosewood, Spring Creek and Goldsboro will take part in the Wayne County meet at Southern Wayne Country Club on Tuesday.
