Girls' soccer
Golden Falcons post 1-1 mark
* WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock scored two second-half goals but it wasn't enough in a 4-2, non-conference loss to Smithfield-Selma on Saturday in the Brittany VII Showcase at the Gillette Soccer Complex.
Cheyenne Craft and Emily Borel each scored in the second half for the Golden Falcons. Borel and Alex Strickland both had an assist.
Cheyenne Warrick scored four goals to lead Aycock to a 7-0 rout of Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe South Johnston on Friday night.
Emily Borel and Madison Mercer both contributed goals for the Golden Falcons. Alex Strickland, Mercer, Sam Parrish and Beth Raynor all had assists.
Aycock (13-3-0 overall, 9-0-0 ECC) visits Cleveland on Tuesday.
WCDS 6, Pasquotank 0
* WILSON -- Sarah Best recorded a hat trick (three goals) in Wayne Country Day's 6-0, non-conference shutout over Pasquotank County in The Brittany VII Showcase.
Catherine Ford, Ami Hodges and Margaret Tanner scored one goal apiece.
Kim Martell earned the shutout in goal.
Mack Thompson received the Best Sportsman Award.
The Chargers (6-4-0 overall) travel to The Epiphany School on Wednesday.
Boys' tennis
Aycock claims doubleheader
* CLAYTON -- C.B. Aycock put the finishing touches on its fourth consecutive Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference regular-season championship with a doubleheader sweep, 9-0 and 6-0, over league newcomer Cleveland.
In the opening match, Will Hoff, Addison Vail, Bradley Wilson, Michael Kearney, Austin Walker and Rex Rose each earned an 8-0 victory in singles. Wilson-Walker, Sam Chastain-Sam Pierce and John Guthrie-Jackson Yelverton each emerged victorious in doubles.
Hoff, Vail, Wilson, Kearney, Walker and Austin Coerver each picked up a singles point in the second match. The doubles matches were not contested.
The Golden Falcons (16-1 overall, 12-0 ECC) return to action Wednesday in the season-ending ECC individual tournament at the Snow Hill Tennis Complex.
