Baseball
North Duplin 13, Hobbton 2
* NEWTON GROVE --North Duplin scored in every inning en route to a 13-2, mercy rule-shortened victory over Hobbton on Monday afternoon.
Ryan Wolf led the Rebels at the plate with four hits and three runs scored. Colby Gheron and Tyler Royal each added three hits in the victory.
Gheron tossed six innings and scattered seven hits to earn the win on the pitcher's mound. Gheron struck out seven Wildcat batters.
North Duplin (6-1 overall) entertains Lejeune on Wednesday.
Boys' tennis
Wilson Fike 5, Eastern Wayne 4
* WILSON -- Fike High School captured four points during singles play and edged Eastern Wayne 5-4 in non-conference tennis action on Monday afternoon.
Steven Taylor and Joseph Chaney each prevailed during singles action for Eastern Wayne.
The tandems of Mike Barnette-Mitchell Kaspar and Cole Newsome-Taylor each earned a point during doubles play.
Eastern Wayne (5-2 overall) travels to North Lenoir for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match today at 4 p.m.
Rosewood 6, Southern Wayne 3
* DUDLEY -- Rosewood captured four singles points in a 6-3, non-conference win over Southern Wayne on Monday afternoon.
Antonio Henriquez, Cole Radcliff, Zach Behrend and Fuad Ismail each claimed a singles victory for the Eagles. The tandems of Radcliff-Ismail and Zach Behrend-Kornegay each prevailed in doubles play.
Rosewood improved to 5-0 overall.
Softball
Hobbton 12, North Duplin 2
* NEWTON GROVE -- Hobbton scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 12-2 win over North Duplin on Monday afternoon.
Ansley Hill suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle.
Skylar McCarty led the Rebels with two hits. Raychel Barwick, Kailey Odom and Kayla Alphin each added one hit in the loss.
North Duplin entertains Lejeune on Wednesday.
Jones Senior 14, Goldsoboro 4
* TRENTON -- Jones Senior scored nine runs in the first two innings and dropped Goldsboro 14-4 on Monday afternoon.
The Cougars scored four runs without getting a single hit in the contest.
Alyssa Richardson took the loss in the pitcher's circle.
Goldsboro (0-5 overall) visits Spring Creek on Thursday.
Golf
Lane Tree Ladies Assoc.
* Donna Adams claimed the game-of-the-week honors during play in the Lane Tree Ladies Golf Association this week.
Teresa Shearin earned low net and Rhonda Williams took home low putts award.
In play last week, Lou Ellen Flowers was the game-of-the-week winner. Linda Hilburn and Linda Watson seized low net and low putts, respectively.
Middle schools
* Softball: Norwayne 16, Greenwood 0 -- Carlee Millard emerged as the winning pitcher with six strikeouts. Dallas Jones, Crystal Woodard and Taylor Adams each tallied multiple hits to pace the Cobras. Norwayne improved to 4-1 overall.
* Soccer: Norwayne 11, Greenwood 1 -- Sabrina Johnson scored four goals to lead the Cobras. Ariel Strickland finished with three goals. Gracie Parrott, Courtney Warner, Malia Porter and Haley Brown each finished with one goal in the win. Norwayne rose to 4-0 overall on the season.
* Baseball: Rosewood 16, Mount Olive 6 -- Jordan Gurley led the Eagles with three hits and five RBI. Ethan Chapin and Matt Parsons each added two hits in the win. Parson got the victory on the pitcher's mound. Rosewood improved to 6-2 overall.
* Baseball: Spring Creek 13, Grantham 12 -- Chad Spurgeon belted a grand slam and tallied six RBI for the Gators. Spurgeon also earned the win on the pitcher's mound. Cody Davis and Matt Holland each hit a home run for Grantham. Spring Creek improved to 7-0 overall.
