Girls' soccer

Eastern Wayne 2, Cleveland 0

* Eastern Wayne collected two first-half goals and handed Cleveland a 2-0 loss in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest at Little Big Horn.

Miller Delbridge and Anne Reed Hulse scored in the 18th and 34th minute, respectively, for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne had a 13-7 edge in shots and 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Warriors (2-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 ECC) travel to Fike on Monday.

C.B. Aycock 7, North Lenoir 0

* PIKEVILLE -- Cheyenne Warrick notched four goals and assisted on another goal in Charles B. Aycock's 7-0 shutout of North Lenoir on the Hardy Talton Stadium pitch.

Madison Mercer, Sam Parrish and Alex Strickland added one goal apiece.

Parrish and Emily Borel each recorded two assists. Strickland logged one assist.

Keeper Casey Scarborough earned the shutout between the pipes.

"The defense played exceptionally well led by Parrish and Jaden Thames," said Golden Falcons head coach Kevin Adkins.

Aycock (3-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 ECC) visits South Johnston on Tuesday.

Wayne Christian 2,

Trinity-Raleigh 0

* Brooke Barfield punched in two goals and Wayne Christian opened Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Trinity of Raleigh.

Katie Isenhower assisted on Barfield's first-half goal. Kennedy was credited with the assist on Barfield's second goal.

WCS keeper Courtney Barrow stopped five Trinity shots.

The Eagles (1-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 CCC) play host to Cape Fear Christian on Monday. Kickoff is 4 p.m.

Triton 4, Southern Wayne 0

* DUDLEY -- Laura Godwin tallied two goals and Triton eased past Southern Wayne 4-0 on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference scene Friday evening.

Kailin Goff and Cheyenne Felkel also scored for the Hawks.

Saints keeper Savanna Brown recorded 20 saves.

Southern Wayne (1-4-0 overall, 0-1-0 ECC) visits league newcomer Cleveland on Tuesday.

Baseball

Greene Central 14, Farmville Central 1 (5 innings)

* FARMVILLE -- Brian Cobb, Will Crandall and Gunner Tyndall each clubbed a three-run home run in Greene Central's 14-1 thrashing of Farmville Central on Friday evening.

It was the Eastern Plains 2-A opener for both teams.

Cobb (three RBI) and Tyndall (three RBI) finished with two hits apiece in the mercy rule-shortened affair. Colby Chase batted 3-for-4 with an RBI. Crandall ended up 1-for-3.

Wes Sowers claimed the mound win and limited the Jaguars to two hits. He recorded 13 strikeouts and walked just one batter in five innings.

Greene Central (3-2 overall, 1-0 EPC) entertains Beddingfield on Tuesday. First pitch is 7 p.m.

Southern Wayne 3, Triton 1

* DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne pitcher Will Broadwell kept the Triton offense in check throughout a 3-1 victory on Friday evening.

Broadwell tossed a complete-game, two-hitter for the Saints in their Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener. Broadwell's only blemish in the run column was a solo home run by Matt Jackson in the fifth inning.

Taylor Raynor led the Saints at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Jaime Dove reached base in his only at-bat and scored a run.

Southern Wayne (4-1 overall, 1-0 ECC) entertains Spring Creek on Monday.

Eastern Wayne 19, Cleveland 0 (5 innings)

* CLAYTON -- Eastern Wayne cranked out 16 hits and hammered out a 19-0, five-inning victory over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference newcomer Cleveland on Friday evening.

Jake May (two RBI) doubled in a 3-for-5 outing, while returning starter Wes Stewart contributed two doubles and two RBI in a 3-for-4 performance.

Wes Capps doubled twice and drove in two runs. Nolan James (two RBI) recorded two doubles. Hunter Barnett doubled, tripled and plated two runs in two official at-bats.

Benito Avila supplied two hits. Greg Simms doubled and collected three RBI.

Logan Wicks emerged the winning pitcher with a one-hit, six-strikeout effort in four innings. May provided one inning of one-hit relief.

Eastern Wayne (4-1 overall, 2-0 ECC) entertains J.H. Rose on Tuesday.

WayneCountry Day 16,

Shannon Forest 12

Cody Neal, Cole Davis and Bryce Creger and Mason Bland each collecte two hits as Wayne Country Day topped Shannon Forest on Saturday.

Davis collected the mound win by tossing three innings of relief.

Wayne Country Day improved to 1-1 overall after dropping the season opener to Trinity of Durham on Friday night.

Boys' tennis

Eastern Wayne 8, Southern Wayne 1

* DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne swept the singles matches and handed county rival Southern Wayne an 8-1 loss in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Friday afternoon.

The teams completed a suspended match from Thursday.

Mike Barnette, Steven Taylor, Rafael Guerra, Joseph Chaney, Cole Newsome and Mitchell Kaspar each earned a singles point for the Warriors. Barnette moved to the No. 1 slot in place of an injured Chaz Fitzpatrick, the reigning eastern singles champion.

The tandem of Brandon Outlaw-Alan Nunez claimed the Saints' lone point at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win over Barnette-Kaspar. The Warriors' Guerra-Chaney and Taylor-Newsome combined to lose just three games in their matches at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Eastern Wayne (4-0 overall, 3-0 ECC) entertains three-time defending ECC regular-season champion C.B. Aycock on Tuesday. First serve is 4 p.m.
