KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Alyssa Bradshaw's two-RBI single capped a three-run, first-inning uprising and Mount Olive defeated Ferris State (Mich.), 5-2, on opening day of the Rebel Spring Games.
Freshman right-hander Carly White tossed four innings in the pitcher's circle, and claimed her third straight win. Sarah Saunders provided three innings of two-hit scoreless relief for the save.
Edinboro (Pa.) University snapped the Trojans' five-game win streak with a 4-1 victory in the second game.
Olivia Poplin's lead-off single started the first-inning outburst against Ferris State. The Trojans (9-12 overall) put runners on the corners. Aubrey Reinhard, who entered the week batting .619 in seven outings, doubled home Poplin for the game's first run.
Bradshaw stroked a two-out single down the right-field line to score Robbin Kennedy and Reinhard for the 3-0 advantage.
White (3-5) scattered five hits, struck out two and walked three. Saunders retired nine of the 11 batters she faced and posted two strikeouts.
Mount Olive loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the third against Edinboro, but had to settle for a single run on Kennedy's sacrifice fly. The Trojans did not get another baserunner until Bradshaw and Lowe singled in the seventh.
Saunders (3-6) tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
MOC played Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) University and Ashland (Ohio) University this morning.
