Rosewood won the battle of possession and in turn held the all-important result on the scoreboard.

The Eagles finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal and held off Southern Wayne 2-1 on Tuesday night at Branch Pope Field.

Rosewood completed the non-conference season sweep of the Saints.

The Eagles dominated possession in the first half and held a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Logan Bill's shot in the 12th minute was saved. Holly Heath's shot in the 17th minute hit the post. Rachyle McAlduff's shot in the 26th minute sailed high.

"We've got to work tomorrow some on finishing and putting some in the back of the net," said Rosewood head coach Ryan Wells. "Southern Wayne's got some scorers up front and if they keep it close that can come back to bite you in the end. We've got a lot of young girls and we have girls now that we're expecting to score that have never been called upon.

"It's just a work in progress."

Cory Smith won the ball inside the 18-yard box and scored to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. Rosewood had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening 40 minutes.

Southern Wayne pulled to within 2-1 on Nichole Casto's goal in the 52nd minute.

"It was a tale of two halves," said Saints' assistant coach Andy Sullivan. "In the first half we sat back on our heels and let the game come to us. In the second half we really attacked and we were running our lanes.

"We started playing Southern Wayne soccer which I know our girls are capable of doing."

Rosewood (2-2-1 overall) entertains Hobbton on Thursday. Southern Wayne (1-3-0) entertains Triton on Friday.
