Boys' basketball
Southern Wayne 61, South Johnston 38
* FOUR OAKS -- Southern Wayne rolled past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe South Johnston 61-38 on Thursday night.
Khari Faison finished with 16 points for the Saints. Delfawn Worrells contributed 15 points and Tony Smith had eight points. Trey Allen distributed six assists, while Bernard Gross pulled down eight rebounds.
Southern Wayne (14-3 overall, 6-1 ECC) continues conference play at home tonight against Cleveland.
Triton 57, Eastern Wayne 47
* ERWIN -- Eastern Wayne tumbled from a first-place tie in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference standings after a 57-47 loss to Triton on Thursday evening.
Josiah Davis led the Warriors with 17 points and eight rebounds. Byron Thompson added 10 points and five rebounds. Robert Washington had seven points and Lamar Best finished with six points and five assists.
The Warriors (10-6 overall, 5-2 ECC) entertain Southern Wayne next Tuesday.
Ayden-Grifton 50, Spring Creek 39
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek suffered a 50-39 loss to Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Ayden-Grifton on Thursday night.
Deshar Thomas led the Gators with 16 points and Kenneth Freeman added 13.
Spring Creek (5-10 overall, 2-2 CC) travels to unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Princeton today.
Girls' basketball
South Johnston 56, Southern Wayne 39
* FOUR OAKS -- Andrel Morris and Danielle Carlton each scored 11 points in Southern Wayne's 56-39 loss at South Johnston on Thursday night.
The Saints play host to Cleveland tonight.
Ayden-Grifton 75, Spring Creek 19
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Alyssa Borja scored seven points for Spring Creek.
The Gators (2-13 overall, 0-4 CC) travel to Princeton tonight.
JV sports
* Girls' basketball: South Johnston 46, Southern Wayne 11 -- Keajah Wilson and Latrecia Johnson scored three points apiece for Southern Wayne.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Mount Olive 50, Rosewood 33 -- Ty Pearsall scored a team-high 21 points for Mount Olive and pulled down 12 rebounds. Xzavier Pearsall supplied 18 points and seven assists. Mount Olive (11-3 overall) claimed a share of the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division II championship.
