WINTERVILLE -- Rosewood started sluggishly, but picked up some momentum during the South Central Duals on Friday evening.

The Eagles dropped back-to-back outings against perennial power West Carteret and South Central, but bounced back with wins against county rival Eastern Wayne, Washington and Pasquotank.

"I am so looking forward to this week as we re-establish a routine of being back in school after three weeks of exams and re-testing," said Rosewood head coach Bill Edmundson. "That kind of thing makes it tough on any athletic team. We inched one step closer to one of our major team goals of the season, winning (program-record) 30 dual-team matches."

Zach Behrend finished 5-0, and climbed to a county-best 35-0 this season. Teammates Nick Quillen and Angel Jaramillo each compiled a 5-0 record on the night.

Josh Pipkin, Taylor McGill and Quadre Ayers each ended the night 4-1. McGill ignited a 27-5 run with a second-period fall over Amiad Salameh at 215 pounds. South Central triumphed in the final individual bout and escaped with a one-point win.

Ayers' lone loss occurred against Pasquotank 140-pounder Ben Riggs.

"Quadre is going to make a big difference in the middle weights," said Edmundson. "Our lower weights have kept us in, and won several matches for us this season. From 103-130 pounds, we're pretty tough. The upper and middle weight classes are coming around."

Weather permitting, Rosewood (29-6 overall) celebrates senior night Tuesday with a non-conference, tri-meet against Southern Nash and Southwest Onslow.
