South Johnston girls defeat Princeton in title game

PRINCETON -- South Johnston shot well from the field throughout its 62-34 win over Princeton in the championship game of the Bulldog Holiday Tournament on Tuesday night.
South Johnston dominated the paint en route to a 16-9 lead after one quarter. Whitney Williams scored eight points in the first period for the Trojans. By halftime Williams had 12 points and the Trojans carried a 41-12 lead.
Williams, who was named tournament Most Valuable Player, led the South Johnston offense with 23 points and nine rebounds. Courtney Woods added 22 points in the victory.
Savanna Massengill paced the Bulldogs with 15 points and five rebounds. All-tournament team selection Megan Gerrell added 10 points.
Princeton (3-8 overall) faces Plymouth in a holiday tournament at South Creek on Dec. 27.
