Goldsboro 43, C.B. Aycock 39

Goldsboro's girls finally got LaTina Bullock-Davis' message during the latter stages of their come-from-behind, 43-39 triumph over county rival Charles B. Aycock inside Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium.

Point guard Jolan Williams drained three free throws in the final 26 seconds, which helped keep the Cougars stay unbeaten in three outings this season.

"Toward the end of the ballgame, they picked it up and started hustling more, being more aggressive," said Bullock-Davis. "They actually looked like they wanted to win. I don't think they realized how intense the game had gotten."

The Cougars' Brandy Johnson pumped in nine of her team-high 13 points in the second half and dished out a game-high five assists. Teammates Talaya Lassiter contributed 11 points and five rebounds, while Kasheika Wallace provided eight points and 14 rebounds.

The backcourt tandem of Courtnei Gilbert and Kelby Dumond paced the Golden Falcons with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Imari Howell supplied six points, while Ivy Hartzell chipped in five points and six rebounds.

Aycock (2-2) bolted to a 9-0 lead in the opening quarter, but went nearly 12 minutes without a field goal. Goldsboro tied the game at 9-9 on back-to-back steals and layups with Alexus Miles and Johnson.

Gilbert's 3-pointer put the Golden Falcons ahead 13-12 at halftime.

The Cougars led 28-24 after three quarters, but fell behind 35-33 on Hartzell's offensive putback with four minutes left in regulation.

Goldsboro maintained a one-possession advantage as Aycock struggled to get position for rebounds, and missed critical free throws in last 60 seconds of play.

The Cougars owned a 34-20 advantage on the boards.

"We didn't rebound and we didn't finish on our end," said Aycock head coach Laura Romo. "We had plenty of chances and didn't make our free throws. Give Goldsboro credit for doing what they had to do to win the game."

South Lenoir 40,

Spring Creek 18

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- A slow start doomed the Spring Creek Gators for the second time this season on Friday night.

The Gators failed to convert a field goal in the opening half of their 40-18 loss to South Lenoir.

The Devils got 14 points in the first half from Tyquilla Graham en route to a 24-5 advantage.

Spring Creek bounced back in the second half with a spirited effort that included eight points from Jana Price as well as a rare triple-technical foul when the play became chippy late in the third quarter.

Price led the Gators with eight points and four rebounds. Kimberly Swinson added four points and four boards.

Graham tallied a game-high 22 for the Devils.

Spring Creek (0-4) plays host Eastern Wayne on Tuesday night.

Jones Senior 44,

Southern Wayne 26

* DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne was plagued by turnovers and a cold shooting performance in a 44-26 home loss to Jones Senior on Friday night.

Jane Hamilton led the Saints with six points. Danielle Carlton provided five points.

Southern Wayne entertains Goldsboro on Dec. 11.

Cresset Christian 52, Wayne Christian 36

* DURHAM -- A poor third quarter doomed Wayne Christian in a 52-36 loss to Cresset Christian on Friday night.

The Eagles trailed by three points at the half, but failed to keep pace as the Eagles found their shooting touch.

Katie Isenhower paced the Wayne Christian offense with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Kennedy added six points.

Wayne Christian (1-3) travels to Grace Christian of Raleigh on Monday.

Boys' basketball

Wayne Country Day 74, Waccamaw Academy 39

Wayne Country Day dominated every facet of its 74-39 win over Waccamaw Academy on Friday night.

Tyson Pearson led the Chargers with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon McCarter also tallied a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. Josh Gregory reached double figures in the scoring collumn with 11.

Carlos Smith paced Waccamaw Academy with 17 points.

Wayne Country Day (4-1) travels to Trinity of Fayetteville on Tuesday.

Rosewood 46, Midway 32

* SPIVEYS CORNER -- Rosewood played solid defense throughout a 46-32 win over Midway on Friday night. The Eagles swept the season series from the Raiders.

Jacquez Raynor and Cody Harris each finished with eight points in the victory.

Rosewood (3-0) visits Parrott Academy on Tuesday.

Princeton 65, North Johnston 38

* PRINCETON -- Ben Jacobs recorded his fourth double-double of the season as Princeton hammered county rival North Johnston 65-38 on Friday night.

Jacobs finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Wes Wood added 13 points for the Dawgs.

Princeton (5-0) entertains Midway on Tuesday night.

JV sports

* Boys' basketball: C.B. Aycock 39, Goldsboro 37 -- Michael Williams led Aycock with 13 points and nine rebounds. Cameron Johnson added 11 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Falcons snapped the Cougars' 23-game win streak dating back to last season.

Middle schools

* Girls' basketball: Rosewood 57, Brogden 26 -- Callie Thornton led the Eagles with 18 points. Krystal Yelverton and Lexi Mercer each added 10 points in the win. Rosewood improved to 5-0 on the season.

* Boys' basketball: Cape Fear Christian 48, Wayne Country Day 45 -- The Chargers were led by Jamal Edwards' 18-point night. Preston Edwards added 13 points in the defeat.
