TARBORO -- Charles B. Aycock grapplers Zeb Darden and Aaron Pate each recorded third-place finishes during the annual Pierce-Davis Memorial contested Saturday at Tarboro High School.

Darden, the No. 2 seed at 140 pounds, lost to eventual tournament champion Deshawn Taylor in the semifinals. Darden bounced back in the consolation rounds.

Pate edged North Pitt's Earl Harris, 4-3, to claim third at 145 pounds.

Preston Tucker collected fourth-place honors at 152 pounds.

Overall, Aycock finished among the top 10 teams.

"C.B. Aycock gets a wake-up call," said second-year Golden Falcons head coach Marc Peck. "Injury and illness hindered our output on the mat this weekend. David Romo (125 pounds) wrestled on the tail end of fighting a stomach flu.

"Nagging injuries to Jordan Bailey (neck), Nick Simmons (shoulder) and heavyweight Jorge Flores (bruised rib) led to a lackluster team performance."

Aycock travels to Southern Nash on Tuesday.
