SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Duplin built a big lead over the first three quarters and withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback in its 34-28 victory over Spring Creek at "The Swamp."

It was the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

Devin Oliver and Taderick Gadberry each scored two rushing touchdowns as the Rebels (4-7 overall, 2-3 CC) controlled the ball and the clock early in the contest. Julio Mora added one rushing score as the visitors built a 34-6 advantage.

Spring Creek erupted offensively with seven minutes left in the game.

A.J. Gills raced in for a 32-yard score and followed that effort with an 83-yard trot on the Gators' next possession. The Gators (1-10, 1-4) cut the lead to six points with one minute left on the clock when Ricky Brayboy found Gills on a 19-yard scoring strike.

The subsequent onside kick did not go the required 10 yards and the Rebels survived by taking a knee.

"I was really proud of how hard my guys played for four full quarters," said Spring Creek head coach Aaron Sanders. "We were a foot away from getting that kick and maybe having a chance to win it."
