Southern Wayne 41, North Lenoir 7
* LaGRANGE -- Southern Wayne rebounded from a loss at Triton with a 41-7 thumping of Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir on Friday night.
The Saints scored 28 points in the first quarter.
Quintae Bradshaw had two touchdown runs in the first 12 minutes and Keith Jones and JaQuan Cobb both added scores. Bradshaw finished with 161 yards on nine carries with three touchdowns.
Southern Wayne held North Lenoir scoreless after the first quarter.
"We played very well," said Saints' head coach Bob Warren. "We certainly wanted to come out and start off on a good note. I felt like we did. This week in practice we worked real hard on trying to eliminate mistakes and being ready to play."
Southern Wayne (3-5 overall, 1-1 ECC) entertains 2009 league champion South Johnston on Friday, while North Lenoir (1-7, 0-2) plays host to Triton.
Princeton 35, North Duplin 28
* PRINCETON -- Princeton scored 28 unanswered points and held on for a 35-28, Carolina 1-A Conference victory over visiting North Duplin on Friday night.
The Rebels took a 21-7 lead in the third quarter on Marcus Kornegay's 60-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wolfe.
The Bulldogs answered with Brad Williamson's 43-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Craft. Forrest Stewart returned a fumble 26 yards for a score late in the third quarter.
Javontae Davis tacked on a pair of touchdown runs early in the fourth quarter to give Princeton a 35-21 advantage. Davis finished with 121 yards on 17 carries. Williamson was 8 for 14 passing for 209 yards.
"We just some how got it going," said Princeton head coach Russell Williamson. "We got some turnovers that gave us some momentum. We've been down like that before but we haven't overcome it and somehow last night we did. Hopefully being in those situations we're learning how to overcome deficits and some of the mistakes we make."
Josh Hill scored a late rushing touchdown for North Duplin. Julio Mora paced the Rebels' rushing attack with 79 yards on 13 carries. Taderick Gadberry added 67 yards and a touchdown.
Princeton (2-6 overall, 1-1 CC) entertains defending league champion Goldsboro on Friday, while North Duplin (2-6, 0-2) welcomes Ayden-Grifton to H.E. Grubbs Field.
Ayden-Grifton 49, Spring Creek 0
* AYDEN -- Spring Creek was held to 74 yards of total offense in a 49-0 loss to Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton on Friday night.
The Chargers built a 21-0 lead at the half.
Fullback Quan Green finished with 141 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
Ricky Brayboy led the Gators with 43 yards on eight carries. Daivon Harris added 33 yards on eight carries.
"We had some stuff that was there that we missed and made some mistakes that hurt us," said Spring Creek head coach Aaron Sanders. "They're very big up front. Size is one of those things that's tough to compete with. It was definitely a challenge for us."
The Gators (1-7 overall, 1-1 CC) plays host to Rosewood on Oct. 22.
"We've got to go to film on Monday and look at the things we did right and what we did wrong," said Sanders. "We've got to correct them and get ready for Rosewood."
James Kenan 39, Lakewood 27
* ROSEBORO -- James Kenan quarter Parker Jones threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 122 yards and three scores in a 39-27 Tri-County 1-A Conference win at Lakewood on Friday night.
Jones had two rushing touchdowns and threw touchdown passes of 91 and 36 yards to James Owens Jr. as the Tigers built a 25-7 lead at the half. Owens had six catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Kenan compiled 395 yards of offense.
"I thought we threw the ball well and were able to run it pretty well," said Tigers head coach Ken Avent Jr. "We spread them out and we were able to throw it and run it. This win was huge for playoff seeding. Falling to 1-3 in the conference would have put us in a big hole.
"Hopefully, the last three weeks we can continue to play well and get a couple more wins."
James Kenan (4-4 overall, 2-2 TCC) entertains Midway on Friday.
