MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive dominated the match statistically, but Chowan scored on each of its first two shots and held on to defeat the Trojans 2-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday evening at Amon Field.

The Trojans outshot Chowan 24-4 and narrowly missed scoring the tying goal just before the final horn.

A foul gave Mount Olive (3-8-1 overall) an indirect kick from just left off the box and the clock was stopped with 4.1 seconds left in regulation. Tyler Vandevender chipped the ball into a crowd of players in front of the goal, but a Trojan header attempt hit the top of the crossbar and rolled down the back of the net as time expired. The shot was the third by the Trojans in the final 15 minutes to hit the crossbar.

Chowan goalkeeper Scott Cullen sparked the Hawks' win with 13 saves, including saves on each of Mount Olive's first five shots.

The Hawks' initial shot attempt was a penalty kick after Mount Olive was called for a foul in the box. Ross Danzeisen converted the pk to give Chowan a 1-0 lead at the 14:33 mark. Adam Smith put the visitors head 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

Mount Olive got on the scoreboard less than three minutes later when Vandevender converted a 19-yard direct kick from the top left of the box.
