HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Tiffany Hight pounded out a match-high 13 kills, but Mount Olive College suffered a 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 defeat against Coker (S.C.) College on the Conference Carolinas women's volleyball scene Tuesday evening.
Freshman Carly White provided eight kills and two blocks for the Trojans, who fell to 3-14 overall and 1-8 against league opposition this season. Kailey Preece dished out just 19 assists and Charnel Austin supplied six assists.
Feliz Ramirez paced the Trojans' defense with 10 digs.
Preece and Ashlee Reuter each recorded two blocks.
The teams battled through seven ties and three lead changes in the opening set. Sophomore Brooke Norris sparked MOC to a 4-0 advantage, but Coker rallied to tie and eventually scored the final seven points to claim the set.
Ramirez opened the second set with a service ace, while Hight and Carly White combined for six kills to stake the Trojans to a 9-5 lead.
The Cobras rallied again and held a 20-16 advantage late in the set. Three kills and an ace by Hight, along with an ace by White keyed a 6-1 run to put Mount Olive on top 22-21.
A double block by Jordan Hancock and April Griggs capped the Cobras' set-clinching 4-0 run. MOC never led in the third set as the Cobras built as much as a nine-point lead.
The Trojans visit Erskine on Saturday.
