Urquiola finishes 6th in Pfeiffer U Invitational

BADIN -- The Mount Olive College women's golf team shaved five shots off its first-round total and moved up into fifth place among nine teams competing during final-round play of Pfeiffer Falcon Cup Tuesday at the Badin Inn Golf Resort.
Junior Valentina Urquiola held her ground in sixth place among the 50 competitors with a 76-77--153. Sophomore Emelie Andersson earned a top-20 finish after carding rounds of 80 and 79 for a 159 total that placed her 16th overall.
Tegan Skirpstas finished 31st, Lindsay Becker tied for 40th and Sarah Baniszewski placed 42nd for the Trojans.
MOC logged a team score of 330 on Tuesday, the fifth-best round of the day. The Trojans ended up second among four Conference Carolinas schools, trailing only host Pfeiffer. UNC Pembroke emerged the team champion.
The Trojans will complete the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 4-5 when they participate in the Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Invitational.
Women's soccer
MOUNT OLIVE -- Cara Paxson broke a scoreless tie in the 21st minute, but Mount Olive College couldn't hang on in a 3-1, non-conference loss to in-state women's soccer rival Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday evening.
Trojan goalie Meagan Robeson, a freshman, recorded nine saves in her second collegiate start to keep the match close despite a 22-1 shot advantage for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Paxson scored off Caroline Smith's assist.
L-RC answered with goals from Amber Holt in the 38th and 73rd minutes, and Elizabeth Hawes in the 67th minute.
Mount Olive (3-4-1 overall) entertains Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
